SHELLY McDEVITT (THERIAULT)
WRITING PORTFOLIO
How do we create content that gets noticed–and read–in today's whooshing white noise of information? For over 10 years, I've helped people and organizations do just that with
writing that is clear, engaging and well-designed.
My portfolio highlights all types of digital and print communications, created in collaboration with smart people who have services, stories and other information to share.
You'll see marketing copy, magazine articles, large-scale internal communications, videos and more. Interested in seeing something else? Just let me know.

Co-edited and co-wrote THRIVE, a 42-page digital and print publication on UNC Charlotte sustainability initiatives. Distributed to alumni + friends, UNC System institutions and the campus community.
I designed and wrote a monthly newsletter called The Dish, aimed to publicize unfamiliar subject matter into relatable content through storytelling. Each issue was sent to over 4,000 faculty + staff with analytics closely monitored.

iContact Marketing
I wrote all news features and scrolling homepage promos dated through January 2019 for UNC Charlotte's ITS Department. Used plain language writing for non-technical, large-scale audiences. (The university's website platform is Drupal.)
Wrote a timeline-style story about
D-Day using TimelineJS, an interactive digital storytelling tool, for a
UNC-Chapel Hill graduate certificate assignment.
There are lots of e-marketing tools to use . Here's one I created in iContact, sent to UNC Charlotte employees. All workshops were filled in 48 hours, with more added due to demand.

Testimonials
I had the pleasure of working with Shelly for more than six years at UNC Charlotte as the university's web communications manager. During our tenure as colleagues, I've remarked on her ability to write about complex topics in straightforward language without jargon. Her style allows people to grasp important concepts with ease; in addition, she makes herself available should anyone have questions or concerns. Furthermore, I'd describe Shelly as a lifelong learner who wishes to thoroughly understand her topics; her clear, concise content reflects her desire to share knowledge with readers. I would highly recommend Shelly for any writing project.

I had the opportunity to collaborate with Shelly on several projects at UNC Charlotte, and I couldn't have enjoyed the experience more. She is a consummate professional: smart, cool under pressure, with a good eye for details. More than that, though, she is upbeat and genial and just a fun person with whom to work!

Shelly is an incredible asset – her creativity, energy, enthusiasm, and professionalism are tremendous strengths. She has coordinated many of our publicity efforts with wonderful results thanks to her engaging and thoughtful writing. Shelly takes potentially mundane facts and turns them into engaging information. From library services to buildings and roads and on to information technology services, she has a knack for making important initiatives engaging and useful to general audiences at UNC Charlotte. I have used Shelly's words to explain complex projects and give context to the uninitiated. Her writing has legs and is interesting to stakeholders well beyond the walls of the university.
